A quality home begins with accurate Excavation
It's difficult to comprehend the impact a big hole can have on the quality of your new home...unless you've seen how easily it can all go wrong. Assembling a custom manufactured home is not like building a house on site. It's important to work with a contractor who understands the specifications for your home and how to prepare for the foundation and home assembly.
It's best to entrust this important job to Schiavi Home Builders. Before we dig in, we'll provide fully detailed specs complete with the necessary approvals. The cost of each aspect of the project will be directly and clearly communicated, along with detailed schedules and code requirements.
At Schiavi, we have an Excavation Check List to ensure that every aspect of your site is considered. Our check list includes:
- State and Local codes
- Proper site prep plus backfill and compacting of all disturbed areas
- Backfill using sharp sand instead of site materials
- Footing drains inside and outside the foundation using crushed stone (we make sure the drains are connected before we leave the site!)
- Crushed stone prep of basement floor along with interior drains to prevent foundation cracks caused by hydrostatic pressure
- After the foundation is poured, we break off the re-bar "ties" before waterproofing to prevent leaks
- Site prep to provide access to construction vehicles: driveway entrance, culverts, crane access etc.
You may choose to work with your own Maine excavator. If you do, please understand that this may cause delays and add cost to your project. For the best result, include all excavating requirements in the general contracting agreement you make with Schiavi Home Builders.
