Universal Design

April 7th, 2008

As I was looking for information for our blog, I ran across a concept I wasn’t familiar with….Universal Design. When I continued reading about it I realized it isn’t a new concept per se, it’s just a broadening of an old concept. Folks used to look for ways to make living in their home easier as they grew older. Now people of all ages are recognizing the advantage of planning ahead for easier living. Universal Design is just a term for including these items in your home design plans. Things we sometimes forget; decorative grab bars in the shower, wider interior doors and step free entrances to homes. This is one more thing to consider as you are designing a custom built home.
